Boxes on boxes on boxes. Still thinking about the containing of our lives in data form, the anomalies that surface as our outs to this shit show, and how to create a culture that is curious to find them. The inside of the boxes are hand dyed from garden flowers curtesy of Kayla Powers. It still amazes me how they pop and hold their own in the presence of such bold human made materials. It reminds me that it is not enough to have a connection to nature to understand and appreciate it. I think we have to accept we are a part of it and not removed to truly combat climate change. I’ve noticed in my days of organizing and gardening that Symbiosis is always possible, but Justice is another realm in itself. What do the two look like together? I often question if the word Justice pulls us away from the potential of symbiosis as it is a human centric concept. I want to know both, not one then the other, but both at the same time. Which brings me to the questions can we be in symbiosis with technology while practicing a just world? What is missing now that prevents us from knowing how? These are the questions that swirl through my head as I make these boxed quilt babies.
